Building and Leveraging Social Capital for Current and Emerging Leaders

Building and Leveraging Social Capital for Current and Emerging Leaders

The Institute of Directors (IoD) Next Gen Committee Guernsey branch is hosting an interactive lunchtime workshop on Wednesday 2nd July 2025, from 12:00 to 14:00, at C5 Alliance’s offices.

The event will be led by Tristan Claridge, Director of the Institute for Social Capital and President of the International Social Capital Association, and is supported by the IoD Guernsey branch and its Next Gen initiative.

Tristan is a world-renowned authority on social capital, with more than two decades of experience in researching and applying the concept across corporate, public, and community settings. His recent work in Guernsey, The Strengths and Weaknesses of Social Capital in Guernsey, broke new ground globally and offered a detailed view of how the island’s leaders understand and use social capital to drive progress.

Titled ‘Building and Leveraging Social Capital for Leaders and Emerging Leaders’ this session is designed specifically for aspiring and current leaders who want to understand how social capital can be a strategic advantage. Attendees will then take part in small group workshop activities and the session will close with each table sharing their insights with the wider group.

Participants will come away with:

  • A clear understanding of what social capital is and why it matters
  • Practical tips to build, maintain and leverage social capital
  • Strategies to enhance their personal and organisational influence
  • Ideas for how social capital can benefit Guernsey as a whole

This event has limited capacity (20–25 attendees) and will be run on a first-come, first-served basis, so early registration is strongly encouraged.

Following the workshop, there will also be an evening networking event from 17:30 to 21:00 at Nutmeg, Victoria Park where attendees can continue the conversation over drinks. Tristan will offer a short 15-minute talk, expanding on the workshop themes providing the opportunity to explore the topic further in a relaxed setting and to build valuable new connections.

Both events are open to IoD members and non-members.

Spaces are limited and early booking is essential. You can book your ticket here.
