The Institute of Directors (IoD) Guernsey branch is hosting a lunchtime workshop on Tuesday, 1 July 2025, from 12:00 to 13:30 at Walkers' offices. The event, sponsored by Skipton International, will feature Tristan Claridge, the Director of the Institute for Social Capital and President of the International Social Capital Association.
Tristan is a leading international expert on social capital and has over 20 years of experience researching and applying social capital across various sectors. His research and report into Guernsey's social capital, The Strengths and Weaknesses of Social Capital in Guernsey, was a world first, and examined how businesses and leaders on the island understand, measure, and utilise social capital. His wider work focuses on the practical application of social capital in areas such as organisational culture, leadership and community development.
The workshop, titled Social Capital in Action: Maximising Its Potential and Value, will explore the practical aspects of social capital, offering insights into how organisations and communities can leverage social networks, trust and norms to achieve better outcomes. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the dimensions of social capital and how to apply these concepts effectively in their own work.
Glen Tonks, Chair of IoD Guernsey, said: 'We are delighted to bring Tristan back to Guernsey. We believe social capital can be Guernsey’s ‘superpower’, and the workshop is a chance to go beyond the research and look at how social capital applies in practice. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask Tristian questions, explore how the findings relate to their organisations, and how we can maximise our social capital to benefit our business and the wider community.'
This event is open to IoD members and non-members. Spaces are limited, so early registration is recommended.
Tickets will be live soon.
