As we move into the latter part of the year, it provides an opportunity to reflect on the successful events delivered so far and to look ahead to the remainder of 2026 and what the IoD Emerging Leaders Committee has to offer.
Since the beginning of the year, the Emerging Leaders community has continued to strengthen its reputation as a forum for collaboration, professional development, and meaningful discussion. Through a series of events, workshops, and networking opportunities, members have engaged with influential speakers, shared experiences with peers, and explored the skills required to lead effectively in an evolving business environment here in Guernsey.
We kicked off 2026 in January with an insightful seminar led by international confidence coach Sheryl Findlay, focused on accelerating ambitions for the year ahead. February's event explored AI and the future of finance, featuring an engaging discussion on how artificial intelligence is influencing investment strategy and portfolio selection, and how leaders can position themselves and their organisations for long-term resilience in an ever-evolving landscape.
In March, the IoD Emerging Leaders Committee and the Guernsey Association of Compliance Officers (GACO) hosted a collaborative event centred on the challenges, trends, and regulatory changes shaping the compliance sector. The sell-out event provided attendees with an opportunity to share perspectives, raise concerns, and contribute ideas on how Guernsey can effectively adapt to the changing world of compliance and risk management.
In May, the committee hosted a successful and engaging seminar where attendees gained valuable insights into the impact of unconscious bias on leadership, decision-making, and workplace culture. The interactive session explored how hidden biases can influence professional relationships, team dynamics, and organisational outcomes, equipping emerging leaders with practical tools to recognise and address these behaviours.
One of the highlights of the year so far was the successful launch of Future in Bloom, which brought together 150 experienced professionals from a wide range of local businesses. The event showcased the island's commitment to developing and supporting the next generation of leaders.
Set within a unique and inspiring environment, Future in Bloom celebrated Guernsey's entrepreneurial and creative talent through contributions from local businesses and organisations. Guests enjoyed an engaging programme featuring keynote speakers Dave Matheson and Billy Etheridge of Alba, alongside Drew Jonkmans, who shared his experiences and involvement in Project Endure.
The strong attendance and overwhelmingly positive feedback demonstrated a clear appetite for opportunities that support professionals aspiring to board-level roles. Future in Bloom successfully reinforced the Emerging Leaders Committee's mission to build confidence, expand networks, and champion the talent that will help shape Guernsey's future.
One of the most encouraging themes to emerge from this year's events has been the growth in attendance and engagement. Subscriber numbers have increased by 13% throughout 2026, while the majority of events have reached full capacity, highlighting the strong interest and enthusiasm among Guernsey's future leaders.
Looking ahead, the Institute of Directors Guernsey will host its landmark conference, Unlocking Economic Growth: Guernsey's Competitive Future. The conference will bring together business leaders, policymakers, regulators, investors, and emerging leaders to explore how sustainable economic growth can be achieved in a rapidly changing world. The sold-out event will take place at Beau Sejour on 18 November.
As the year draws to a close, the IoD Emerging Leaders Committee still has several exciting events planned, offering members valuable opportunities to develop their skills, expand their professional networks, and gain fresh perspectives on leadership.
The year will conclude with the Christmas Extravaganza, taking place at Cygnet on 10 December. This festive celebration will provide members with an opportunity to reflect on another successful year, reconnect with fellow emerging leaders, and strengthen professional relationships in a relaxed and enjoyable setting.
