The Institute of Directors (IoD) Guernsey branch has launched the fourth edition of its Economic Confidence Survey, inviting members to share their views on the current business environment and the most pressing challenges facing organisations across the Bailiwick.
The latest iteration aims to build on insights from previous surveys offering a comparative look at how sentiment is evolving. Responses will feed into the Directors’ Economic Confidence Index, shared with the States of Guernsey and the local media, and members will receive early access to the results at the end of November.
The third survey, findings of which were released in May 2025, highlighted a noticeable rebound in confidence in Guernsey’s economy, with the net confidence reading rising from -25% in November 2024 to -11%. While sentiment remained in negative territory, this marked a significant improvement and a clear divergence from the UK, where confidence remained low at -51%.
This uplift was driven largely by the finance and professional services sectors, likely influenced by the positive outcome of the recent MONEYVAL assessment. In contrast, confidence fell sharply in the construction and retail sectors, reflecting ongoing pressures in those industries.
This latest survey will explore members’ views on business confidence, the challenges facing their organisations and potential solutions to Guernsey’s fiscal deficit.
Richard Hemans, IoD Guernsey’s economic lead, said, ‘This is now our fourth survey, and it continues to strengthen the evidence base we use to represent the business community, giving Guernsey’s directors and business leaders a collective voice.
‘The findings in May 2025 showed early signs of renewed optimism, particularly in finance and professional services, and as we enter the fourth round, we hope to gain a clearer picture of how businesses are adapting to persistent pressures, external change and policy uncertainty.’
The survey is open exclusively to IoD members and will run from Tuesday 4 November to midnight on Monday 17 November. You can complete it here.
